This is my final blog of my semester here at SOAR. We went to canoe on the Buffalo River in Arkansas and we visited Memphis. I have enjoyed my time here at SOAR. Through all the positives and negatives, it has been a great experience.
The people that I have spent the last four months living with have been great. They were fun to talk to and hang out with. I will remember these fantastic memories for a lifetime. I hope to see all of you when I return home to Columbus.
Farewell SOAR. Thanks for the memories.

Oliver's Costa Rica Blog
Costa
Rica was our third expedition of the semester. We drove to Atlanta on Thursday
for the airport. WE flew to Costa Rica and landed in San Jose on the same day.
WE were picked up at the airport by Willie and drove to the hostel. We went and
looked around at different shops in the city and there were ice cream shops,
skate shops and a music store. There were tons of construction in San Jose and
razor wire the top of every building. We stayed the night in the
hostel then in the morning we entered the bus and drove to La Fortuna. In La
Fortuna did horse back riding and zip lining. The cabanas we stayed in were
really nice. We were there for three days. We went to the hot springs; the
water slides there were really fast and slick. Horse back riding was a lot of
fun because they let you get on the horse and just follow the tour guide. They
didn’t have many rules for us to follow and that’s why it was tons of fun.
Costa Rica was probably the coolest expedition I’ve been on yet. I’m looking
forward to future expeditions.

SOAR Blog #3
I am
spending my third expedition at SOAR in the tropical climate of Costa Rica.
Since flying into San Jose on Thursday, I have had many opportunities to
explore the lifestyle of the country. We have been horseback riding and ziplining
during my time here. We have been staying in very nice cabanas as well.
What’s
unique about this expedition is that it is the first one we have been on since
merging North and South House together. We have had a lot of fun lately and I
have made lots of new friends. We also have two head instructors along with our
normal field instructors. The end of the semester is coming closer and closer.
When we get back to North Carolina, we will have one more expedition before we
go home. I hope all of you have been reading my blogs and I can’t wait to see
everyone in early May.

Oliver's story blog
When
I get home, I know I will have tons of stories to tell about my semester. I
will most likely tell them about my expedition and the wacky moments we had. I
think sharing my experience is important because they probably would want to
know how my semester went and how I’ve been doing. I usually give my stories
time until I’m ready to share them with friends and family.
I know if I sent my kid away to an adventure boarding school I would
want to hear all about his/her experience. I find it fun to be able to share
stories with people and see how they react to your experience. I want to
exchange stories with my family members because they weren’t there to
experience them and see how my semester unfolded. I know my mom wants to hear
all about it!
Every body should have interesting
stories to tell about some crazy mishap or some turn of events. If not, someone
has a really boring life.

I would
like to explain to you about my canoeing trips. Rowing in open water brought
back an old memory of mine. When I was eleven years old, my dad and I went
canoeing in Georgia’s Okeefenokee Swamp on a Scout trip. I took it a step
further in the Everglades.
The
Everglades is much more spread out than the Okeefenokee is. We went through many
spread out bays to reach our campsites. It takes lots of teamwork to canoe in
the Everglades. It gets hot down there and your arms will get a good workout in
them.
Unfortunately,
we had to retreat back to land prematurely because of an incident we had. I
wish I could have seen more but it was worth it. We then camped back at Collier
Seminole State Park. I will have more adventure stories to come in the future.

Olivers Blog
Hello, my name is Oliver and I’m seventeen
years old. I live in a small farm town called Rice in the state of Virginia. I
am part of a large family with two parents and four other siblings. I like
video games, horror movies and the television series The Walking Dead. My
favorite genres of music is alternative rock, Heavy rock and electronic. I like
to spend time on my laptop and on YouTube. I enjoy shooting videos and editing
them. All of my videos were made on my property with my younger brother Philip.
My favorite book to read is the Hunger Games because it is an interesting and
easy to read type of book. I usually don’t like to read nevertheless the story
had earned my interest. I’m apart of an out door adventure boarding school
named S.O.A.R because it was the best suited high school for me out of the
others.
Fate Amos SOAR Blog #1
Greetings, my name is Fate Amos. I am a new student here
at the Academy at SOAR. This is the first blog I am writing for my class. It is
an overview about my experiences so far in the Florida Keys. It has been a
difficult time for me not being able to see or talk to my family or friends.
After
two days of travelling, we reached our campsite. The guys have been great and
we have been working hard to get work done and have more fun. Day 1 was spent
watching scuba videos in a library classroom. The second day was taking scuba
quizzes by the pool. Our off day was spent visiting the History of Diving
Museum. Today, we did two pool dives. One of which was very cold and hard to
acclimate to.
This
first expedition has been a good learning experience for me. I have improved on
time management and compromising. We have a full week to finish the expedition.
In the future, I will be able to be in touch with all of you in as many ways
possible. My contact information will be listed below.
